Our Work
Prashanti Foundation is a registered Trust dedicated to empowering marginalised people in rural Karnataka.
Chetana - Empowering people with disabilities (PWDs)
Through its flagship project, Chetana, the foundation provides access to occupational training, financial assistance, and healthcare, enabling differently-abled individuals to establish healthy routines, learn new skills, and earn a livelihood.
Chetana is committed to environmental protection by promoting the use of banana fiber products and integrating textile waste and banana fiber in their production. The adoption of waste fabric and recycled handmade paper further underscores their dedication to eco-friendly practices. Among the wide range of products offered, including containers, home décor, watches, stationery, and food items, sustainability and transparency are paramount. The foundation is dedicated to empowering disabled individuals through responsible and handmade manufacturing methods, fostering a positive societal impact.
For the past 18 years, Chetana has supported individuals with disabilities by providing daycare, vocational training, economic support, and psycho-social assistance. At the Occupational Rehabilitation Centre, each person is given the opportunity to acquire skills that align with their functional abilities. Regular work and social interactions foster structured routines, positively impacting their physical and psychological well-being. This approach enables them to lead lives with purpose and dignity.
To support the overall well-being of the PWDs, Chetana provides nutritious meals, free transportation, and a reasonable stipend for their work. The core mission of the organization is to keep PWDs engaged in productive activities and to enhance their quality of life through purposeful occupation.
Early Intervention Project:
Early intervention program is designed to cater to children exhibiting developmental delays within the age group of 0 to 8 years and provide services as per assessment & need analysis. It includes baby screening, identification, assessment, need analysis, intervention and connecting children as per the existing linkages in the community.
With the support of the Association of People with Disability (APD), Prashanti Foundation has launched an Early Intervention Project aimed at identifying and supporting children with developmental delays and disabilities in Sirsi Taluk. Through this initiative, 120 beneficiaries have been identified so far.
A dedicated team of three field staff is actively involved in identifying beneficiaries, linking them with mainstream institutions, providing home-based services, and sensitizing and educating parents to improve the overall condition and development of their children.
To ensure consistent guidance and therapy, the project operates through one main center and two subcenters, which focus on therapy-based activities and continuous coaching for both the beneficiaries and their parents.
Assistive aids and measurement tools have been distributed to the selected beneficiaries during need-based measurement camps, ensuring each child receives appropriate support for their unique requirement.
Plant Nursery Project:
In order to further utilize the potential and capacity of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), the organization has launched a new initiative called the Plant Nursery Project in collaboration with KVK Sirsi.
Through this project, PWDs are actively involved in various nursery activities such as soil preparation, transplantation, watering, weed control, and fertilization. The primary goal is to promote the supply of organic plants to end users while also enhancing the participation and contribution of PWDs within the organization.
